At Rest by EMMA KISIEL

At Rest is a photographic series depicting roadkill on American highways and addressing our human fear of confronting death and viewing the dead.  Emma Kisiel’s images draw attention to the fact that, while man has a vast impact on animal and natural life, the dominant religion in America insists that animals do not have a place in Heaven and are, therefore, of little value in our society.  To cause the viewer to feel struck by this truth, Emma photographs memorials she has built surrounding roadkill at the location at which its life was taken.  At Rest expresses the sacredness to the bodies of animals accidentally hit by vehicles while crossing the road.

US 93 Wildlife Overpasses in Arizona

This photo gallery features bighorn sheep at the 3 overpasses on US 93 near Hoover Dam in AZ. The Arizona Game & Fish Department has documented over 500 desert bighorn sheep crossings in the first 15 months of monitoring. (Credit: Jeff Gagnon, AZGFD)

Arizona Game and Fish Department video of the first desert bighorn sheep crossings ever recorded at a wildlife overpass!  Locations of 3 wildlife overpasses were identified through GPS collared sheep movement data beginning in 2004.  These structures and associated funnel fencing were completed in early 2011.  (Credit: Jeff Gagnon, AZGFD)
